After 15 days of trekking, we are in Pokhara right now:
We had some steak finally after our daily serving of Dal Baht (Rice, Potato, Lentils) for over two weeks. Here some highlights:
- Both, my friend Joe and me lost about 4-10 pounds on the way, but we are working hard currently to get it back on.
- My shoes lost there soles on the second day. After we tried to repair them unsuccessfully with superglue, I walked in Joe’s shoes (which are one size to small) and got bad blisters. Finally, my good old Birkenstock sandals did the trick taking me up to 4200 meters

We finally arrived in Kathmandu yesterday.
After an organisational marathon today, we can leave into the mountains right away tomorrow.
There will be no internet, so no more posts the next 18 days, but we got a cell phone:

I got some good pictures from Portuguese guys mowing a huge lawn with tiny electrical lawnmowers and made an evil picture of Claus…
ODBase 2009 and OnTheMove conference was actually really horrible, scientific as well as organisational.
There were about 6 authors, which didn’t show up to present their work. This was only in the sessions I attended, I have heard that there were even more missing in other sessions. The other contributions had a mixed quality, from good to bad, but they can not be compared to the quality of ISWC. When I gave my talk there were about 15 people. Probably, most of the missing authors were scared away by the expensive conference fee (645 euros). Together with the other attendants, I met there, we wondered, where this money actually went. There was no lunch or any other kind of food during the whole conference. At the 2 social occasions the hotel actually stopped serving drinks at 10 pm, so they were both very short. There are several other points of critique left, but I won’t mention them here. I can only recommend not to submit anything to ODBase, as the conference was not worth attending.
On Monday, we will meet with guys from CENTRIA in Lisbon to have a short SemanticWeb workshop.

Hallo,
habe gerade hinbekommen mir einen Blog einzurichten (was nicht so schwierig war) und 400 China Bilder hochzuladen (was ein bischen schwieriger war).
Die Photos sind zum einen Teil von meiner Freundin und zum anderen von unserer Bekannten, obwohl ich auch das ein oder andere gemacht habe.
Wenn man auf View with PicLens clickt bekommt man einen ganz guten Imagebrowser und kann sich alle ganz schnell anschauen.
